- Taking place from April through July, the project is open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people.
Saffron, Doors Open and Resident Advisor's career-development project is returning in 2024.
Running from April through July, Forward in Sound is open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people. The project, which is also in collaboration with audio hire firm Sound Services, will see six people undertake a bespoke sound engineering course.
The first four days of training will take place at East London venue The Shacklewell Arms, with participants learning about various sound setups and the technicality of sound in a live setting.
The final two days are at Sound Services HQ in South London, where participants will shadow the team and learn about sound theory and the science of audio. Funktion One's Mike Iggy will also give a talk on creating exceptional sound experiences. Work experience placements at The Shacklewell Arms and another East London venue, 93 Feet East, will follow in May and June respectively.
Launched last year, Forward in Sound is open to anyone aged 18 or over who identifies as a woman, non-binary, trans or gender non-conforming. The project is aimed at aspiring sound engineers with little to no prior experience and priority will be given to those without degree-level education and from low-income households.
For anyone interested in applying but keen to know more, RA is hosting an online webinar and Q&A demystifying the role of the live sound engineer on Wednesday, March 27th, at 6:30 PM GMT. The sessions lasts one hour. Sign up now.
