- Even though he makes comically huge bangers, Robert Hood has always remained credible. The reason? You can't argue with the quality of his productions, in which every element is crafted for maximum impact. (Given Hood's history as a pioneering minimalist, this isn't surprising.) Things get particularly anthemic with Floorplan, the gospel-themed alias responsible for weapons like "Never Grow Old," "Tell You No Lie" and June's "Made Up In My Mind." But instead of the hallelujah euphoria of those main-stage tracks, his reworks of "Feel The Same," the title track from Radio Slave's forthcoming debut album, lay down classic call and response vocals over a steamrolling beat. They don't reach the hallowed highs of his gospel-sampling productions, but typically slick Hood percussion and bass ensures both tunes will rock your next festival set.
With dub techno stabs, pads and '90s-style riff, "Remix 2" is the EP's more melodic option. An intense clap pattern comes and goes amidst the synths' twists and turns, boosting the energy each time it appears. "Remix 2" takes things deeper by switching melody for atmosphere. The slamming beat and paranoid claps remain, sculpting a full-bodied presence underneath the abstract details on top. Only those in command of a heaving dance floor should consider dropping the needle on either side.
